Overview
Canvas has released New Quizzes, a new quizzing tool for Canvas that will replace the existing Classical Quizzes tool in foreseeable future. New Quizzes offers several new features and question types, and brings workflow improvements to what is commonly encountered in Canvas Quizzes. It also has a totally different look and feel from most current Canvas tools for both the teacher and the student.
Canvas has enabled New Quizzes in Canvas so that instructors can begin to familiarize themselves with the tool by experimenting in courses and/or using it for course activities.
New Quizzes vs. Classical Quizzes
To learn more about the new tool and how it compares with the existing Canvas Quizzes tool, see the following documents. Instructure updates these documents regularly as new features are implemented in New Quizzes.
Feature Variations
The comparison linked above is a high-level overview of the differences. Listed below are some additional features in Canvas Quizzes that are not yet available in New Quizzes:
- Contents of New Quizzes are not overwritten when imported again through Import Course Content.
- Question banks created in Canvas Quizzes cannot be migrated directly to New Quizzes.
- It is not possible to create question groups that are not linked to an item bank. There is, however, a new item type called a "stimulus " type that allows a group of questions to be associated with a block of content.
- The Rich Content Editor (RCE) in Canvas New Quizzes is currently different from the RCE in the rest of Canvas, as its features are still being built. You currently cannot link to documents, images or videos previously uploaded to your course Files. All images must be uploaded directly to the quiz from your computer.
- Surveys can be migrated from Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. However, the survey will be migrated as a standard quiz, because New Quizzes does not include a survey feature.
