Moderate Assessment

Click the Moderate tab.

View Moderation Page

The Moderation Page displays a list of students in the course [1], their assessment attempts [2], the score for each attempt [3], the time for each attempt [4], attempt logs [5], and assessment accommodations [6].

To moderate an assessment for an individual student, click the Moderate button [7]. Moderation options include managing timer settings and reopening a student's most recent attempt.

1. The first step is to open Canvas Course and click Quizzes.

Filter Results

To search for a specific student, type their name in the Search field [1]. To filter displayed results by all attempts, no attempts left, attempts left, submitted attempts, or attempts where autograding failed, click the Sort by drop-down menu [2].

Moderate Attempt

Moderation settings apply only to the assessment you are moderating and include reopening assessment attempts and managing timer settings. Find the student you want to moderate. Then click the Moderate button.

Reopen Assessment 

To reopen the student's most recent assessment attempt, click the Reopen button.

Accept Message 

A warning message will display to inform you that the student can resume their assessment attempt from its previous position [1]. To accept and reopen the assessment, click the Reopen button [2].

Manage Attempts 

The Moderate panel displays the number of allowed attempts per the assessment settings [1].
To give the student additional attempts for the assessment, type a number or use the arrow buttons in the Additional Attempts field [2].

Adjust Timer Settings 

To adjust the timer settings for the student, select an option in the Time adjustments menu.

Add Additional Time 

To add additional time to the assessment attempt, select the Give additional time option [1]. Then select the amount of time [2]. Time units can be set to minutes or hours.

Remove Time Limit 

To remove the time limit from the attempt, select the Remove time limit (unlimited) option.

8. With your mouse, select text in Minutes.

9. Type Minutes.

10. Click Drop Down Menu.

11. Click Remove time limit (unlimited).

View Timer Adjustments

View the moderation timer settings in the Accommodations column. This column displays the cumulative effect of course-level accommodations and moderation timer settings.

Set Course Accommodations

Accommodation settings include adding or removing time for all assessment attempts, and multiplying time limits by a set multiplier. Find the student you want to apply accommodations for [1]. Then click the Edit icon [2].

Select Time Adjustment

In the Time adjustments menu, select the time adjustment option you want to give the student.

Give Additional Time 

To add additional time, select the Give additional time option in the time adjustments menu [1]. Then use the Hours and Minutes fields [2] to add additional time.

Remove Time Limit 

To remove the time limit, select the Remove Time Limit (unlimited) option in the time adjustments menu.

Add Time Limit Multiplier 

To add a time limit multipler, select the Time limit multiplier option in the time adjustments menu [1]. Then enter the multiplier in the Time limit multiplier field [2].

Save Accommodations

Click the Save button.

View Accommodations

View the student's accommodations in the Accommodations column. This column displays the cumulative effect of accommodations and moderation timer settings.
